The child’s social worker is responsible for ensuring that children and young people in care have an appropriate school place and that suitable transport arrangements are made to facilitate good attendance. Social workers should seek a school or other education setting that is best suited to their child’s needs, working in partnership with foster parents, School Admissions and the virtual school.
If a child needs to be admitted to a school outside Wolverhampton, contact the school admissions team in the local authority where the child resides for advice on how the school admissions process works and the availability of school places. Please also contact the virtual school for advice on suitable school choices.
Children and young people in care are given highest priority in school admissions and in all oversubscription criteria in accordance with the School Admissions Code. If the child does not receive a school place (and all suitable schools within a reasonable travelling distance have been approached) contact the virtual school for further support.
